Already have a DVD?

Their wedding film is on DVD.
That may not be its best version.

An earlier transfer may simply have copied the recording to disc, complete with faded colours, picture noise and muffled sound. Having a DVD does not mean the best possible picture and sound were recovered from the tape.

If you still have the cassette, we can return to the source. Careful capture and restoration offer a chance to improve on that earlier DVD. What is possible depends on the condition of the tape and the quality of the existing copy.

Only the DVD remains? It is still worth telling us about the recording. We will assess what can be improved in the DVD copy and provide a separate quote.

The best part of the gift

That moment when everyone leans towards the screen.

Perhaps your parents have not watched their wedding in years. The video recorder stopped working, the tape stayed in a cupboard, and only a few scenes are still familiar. Their anniversary is a lovely reason to see it again.

Someone straightens a bow tie. Someone forgets the camera is there. You hear the laughter around the table and the song from the first dance. Then come the stories: “Do you remember?” “We look so young!” That shared evening is the gift. The restored film gives everyone a reason to gather.

More than a VHS transfer

We do more than copy the film.
We work on how it looks and sounds.

A straightforward copy preserves the faults as well as the memories. After a careful capture, we work separately on picture and sound. Each recording gets its own treatment.

01 / PICTURE

Fewer distractions from the memories

We adjust colour and brightness and reduce noise and instability where the recording allows. We take care to keep faces looking natural. Picture restoration uses no generative AI to invent details absent from the recording.

02 / SOUND

Memories have a voice, too

We reduce hiss, hum and clicks, improve speech clarity and balance volume levels. The processing is chosen to keep voices natural. The aim is clearer sound that still feels true to the original recording.

Results depend on the original recording and the condition of the tape. Some faults cannot be repaired, but the material that survives deserves careful attention.

Yours to keep

A film for an evening together.
A source for the future.

Watch the restored film on Blu-ray with an elegant menu, from a USB drive or after downloading it from the cloud. Whichever you choose, you also keep a digital negative: a source file for future restoration. PLN 200 per tape includes the MKV film and digital negative. The Blu-ray edition and our boxed USB drive are priced separately.

VHS cassette

The original picture and sound on tape.
The starting point for both routes.

A standard DVD transfer

DVD-Video copy

A film for a DVD player. Some data is discarded during encoding to reduce the file size. Copying alone does not remove faults in the recording.

A copy for watching

Careful capture and restoration

1. Careful tape capture

Digital negative

A lossless source file before restoration. It is kept unchanged while we work on a copy.

You receive: a source to archive
2. Picture and sound restoration

Restored film

Choose how to watch:

  • Blu-ray with a menu
  • MKV on a USB drive
  • MKV by cloud download
You receive: a film to watch
Two routes from the same tape. Restoration produces the finished film in your chosen viewing format, while the source is preserved separately. PLN 200 includes both files; Blu-ray with a menu, or our USB drive and gift presentation, are quoted additionally. DVD is not an intermediate step.

The same restored film. Three ways to watch.

Blu-ray

A disc with its own menu

Start the film with the remote, enjoy an elegant menu and choose a favourite scene. With a personalised cover and printed disc, ready for a Blu-ray player or a compatible PlayStation or Xbox console with a Blu-ray drive.

The Blu-ray edition, menu and presentation are quoted individually.

USB drive

A film to keep close

The restored MKV file on a USB drive, for a compatible television or computer. We can also prepare an elegant box, ready to give to your parents.

Saving to your drive is included. Our USB drive and box are priced separately.

Cloud download

A film to download

Use the link to download the restored MKV file to your own computer or drive. It also makes it easy to share the recording with relatives who live far away.

File delivery by download is included in the PLN 200 price per tape.

Every option also includes your digital negative. This is a separate, large archive file, not the film played from the disc menu. We agree how to deliver it and how much storage it needs before starting work.

What is a “digital negative”?

This is what we call a large source file saved without lossy compression: none of the captured data is discarded simply to make the file smaller. Just as a photographic negative can produce a new print, this file lets the recording be processed again.

Better tools may become available in a few years. That source can then be revisited without playing the ageing tape again. We cannot predict what future restoration will achieve. We can preserve a good starting point.

Why go beyond a DVD copy?

A well-made DVD can look good. But DVD-Video requires lossy compression, which can introduce visible artefacts and limits the material available for later work. A copy on disc does not replace a lossless source.

The difference comes primarily from careful capture and the restoration of picture and sound. You can enjoy that work on Blu-ray or as an MKV file. Changing the disc or file format alone does not restore a recording or turn VHS into footage shot in HD.

Choose how to watch. Keep the source, too. Blu-ray, USB and cloud download are three ways to enjoy the same restored film. Your digital negative is delivered separately, even when you order a disc. PLN 200 per tape includes both files, delivered by download or saved to your own drive. The keepsake Blu-ray edition with a menu, and our USB drive and box, are quoted individually.

Why it helps to start early

The tape is in a cupboard.
Time is still passing.

A tape ages even when nobody plays it. Moisture, heat and mould can make it harder to read or damage the recording. VHS tapes do not all have the same expiry date. It is worth preserving the only copy before problems appear.

That does not mean rushing to play the tape “just to check”. If there are deposits or signs of mould, its condition should be assessed first. Our guide explains more about ageing tapes, mould and saving family recordings.

Once preserved, the film can be watched at the next anniversary and passed on to another generation. After downloading, keep copies on two separate storage devices.

A USB stick, a disc or a single hard drive is not a substitute for a backup. Keep the digital negative separately from the copy you watch day to day.

Before the family screening

A few practical questions.

Will the film play on my parents' television?

The disc can be watched on a compatible Blu-ray player, or on consoles such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when equipped with a Blu-ray drive. Consoles without a disc drive and DVD-only players cannot play it. An MKV file from USB or a cloud download needs a compatible television or computer application. Please share the device model before we start so we can agree how to prepare the film for it.

Disc playback is covered in PlayStation’s video playback guide and the specifications for the different Xbox Series X models.

Can it be ready for the anniversary?

We confirm the timeframe before accepting the order. Please include the anniversary date and number of tapes in your first message. Capture, restoration and checking take time, and a damaged cassette may need additional work.

I already have a DVD. Do you need the original tape?

If the cassette survives, it is worth starting there. A new capture may provide better material for restoration than a compressed DVD copy, depending on the tape's condition and the quality of the earlier transfer. If only the disc remains, please contact us. We will assess what is possible and provide a separate quote.

Will the old film look like a modern recording?

It will retain its VHS character. We improve what can be recovered from the recording, but do not promise modern sharpness or the return of lost information. Natural faces, a clearer picture and familiar voices matter more.

Does PLN 200 include a gift box or Blu-ray?

PLN 200 per tape includes picture and sound restoration, an MKV film and a digital negative. The files are delivered by cloud download or saved to a drive you provide. The Blu-ray edition with menu, cover and printed disc, our boxed USB drive and shipping cost extra. We confirm the full price before starting work.

It starts with one tape
